SOLID ADJUSTABLE PANHARD BAR FOR TURBO DODGE CARS
All 84-93 P,J,K,G,E,H Dodge & Chrysler Cars
This is a direct bolt on, solid, adjustable panhard bar that replaces the wimpy factory stamped steel, non-adjustable panhard rod on turbo Dodge cars built from 1984-1993. The factory panhard bar is often bent from towing and also flexes an alarming amount during hard cornering such as in an auto-cross or road racing events or even on the street during aggressive driving in turns. It doesn’t take much cornering force at all to flex and bend the factory bar.
If you have lowered your turbo Dodge, depending on the amount it’s lowered (like 1” or more), doing so actually moves the rear axle to one side and then it’s off-center. This makes for some really interesting tracking and alignment issues as well as poor handling. The cure is an adjustable panhard rod allowing you to quickly and easily “re-center” your car’s rear axle.
WHAT IS A PANHARD BAR?
The Panhard bar prevents lateral (side to side) movement of the rear axle during cornering, or in the cse of an adjustable panhard rod, allows you to re-center the rear axel in the car that is needed when lowering (or raising) the suspension with custom spring and strut/shock set-ups. The Panhard bar is a simple device, consisting of a rigid bar running sideways in the same plane as the axle, connecting one end of the axle to the car body or chassis on the opposite side of the vehicle.
IS A PANHARD BAR NECESSARY?
A panhard rod should be considered mandatory on all cars that have modified body heights from the factory suspension settings as well as cars that are raced or used for on-street performance driving through curves. The bar is normally mounted to the frame on the driver's side and to the axle/batwing on the passenger side.
HOW DOES A PANHARD BAR WORK?
A panhard bar connects diagonally from the axle to the frame of the vehicle. Using this geometry, it allows some up and down pitch of the rear axle in relation to the wheels. This is important as the vehicle moves over uneven surfaces. With its fixed points, the panhard bar prevents the axle from moving too far to either side. A longer panhard bar has less "give," which is better for driving dynamics. Having a shorter panhard bar is not as ideal, because it allows for more body motion.
WHAT IS AN ADJUSTABLE PANHARD BAR?
Problems with panhard bars occur when you want to change the ride height of your vehicle. Whether you’re raising or lowering the vehicle, the panhard bar’s factory angle will be thrown off. An adjustable Panhard bar solves this by allowing the owner to alter their suspension geometry to get the proper layout.
