The Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth “k-car” era automobiles use an electrical charging system that incorporate a voltage regulator (or VR for short) that balances the need for charging the battery, this voltage regulator(VR) is located inside the automobiles "power module". The voltage regulator(VR) is controlled by a single wire connection from the logic module. So it is a power module/logic module dependent system.
The logic module and power module are not typically owner serviceable and if the VR in the power module either fails in the full charge mode or no charge at all mode, it is not easily replaceable. Also, if the wire from the logic module that triggers the power module to operate the VR has a poor connection, the system will either not charge at all or get stuck on full charge. So when you have charging problems and the wiring, power module, logic module or the VR itself is at fault, replacing the faulty components or wiring is often necessary, and expensive....but you do have an alternative repair path!
INTRODUCING THE "EXTERNAL VOLTAGE REGULATOR" SOLUTION
Prior to the voltage regulator being placed internal to the power module, Chrysler (and many other manufacturers) used a very reliable and proven external voltage regulator technology. This technology is both economical, serviceable, and easy to install to replace the VR that lives inside the power module.
Our external voltage regulator solution is specifically designed to be used on turbo Dodge automobiles built from 1983-1987 and that utilize the logic module/power module engine and charging system management system. Our kit comes complete with everything needed to install a genuine Mopar external voltage regulator on your utrbo or non-turbo Dodge car built from 1983-1987.
